In briefProsthetic dentistry restores or replaces teeth with crowns, bridges, dentures or implant-supported work. The choice is made after a clinical examination; the final quote is given after diagnosis.

Which prosthetic solution may suit you?

The right solution depends on the number of damaged or missing teeth, the condition of the gums and bone, your bite and your expectations. These are the most common situations:

Do you have a damaged or weakened tooth?

A dental crown can cover and protect a tooth when it cannot be sufficiently restored with a filling. Before treatment we assess whether the tooth can be saved and which material is most suitable.

Are you missing one or more teeth?

A dental bridge can fill the gap by relying on the neighbouring teeth. In other cases a solution with dental implants, without necessarily using the neighbouring teeth for support, may be recommended.

Are you missing many or all of your teeth?

Depending on your oral condition, we may assess a removable denture, a skeletal denture or rehabilitation supported by implants. The aim is a balance between stability, function, maintenance and budget.

Is your denture loose or damaged?

Not every case requires a new denture. After the examination we determine whether it is possible to repair the denture or reline it.

What is prosthetic dentistry?

Prosthetic dentistry deals with restoring or replacing teeth to improve chewing, speech, bite and the appearance of the smile. It includes fixed work such as crowns and bridges, as well as removable work or work supported by implants.
A good prosthetic plan does not only assess the space where a tooth is missing. It also considers the health of the gums, supporting teeth, bone, joint function, hygiene and how the teeth meet when biting.

Prosthetic treatments at Art Dent Clinic

Dental crown

A crown covers the visible part of a damaged tooth or is placed over an implant. The material is chosen according to the position of the tooth, bite forces and clinical condition. Options: metal-porcelain crown, zirconia crown, E-max crown, full zirconia crown.

Dental bridge

A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth with fixed work, supported by the neighbouring teeth or, in suitable cases, by implants. The supporting teeth and the possibility of hygiene under the bridge are assessed.

Removable and skeletal dentures

They are removed for cleaning and may need an adjustment period. In certain cases, also consider a skeletal denture.

Prosthetic work on implants

When clinical conditions allow, crowns, bridges or dentures can be supported by implants for greater stability. Read more on the dental implants page.

Denture repair and relining

A damaged or loose denture is checked before it is repaired. The intervention may be a repair or relining, but in some cases a replacement is needed.

How is prosthetic treatment carried out?

1. Consultation and diagnosis

The doctor examines the teeth, gums and bite. Depending on the case, X-rays or other tests may be needed.

2. Treatment plan

The options, advantages, limitations, stages and quote are discussed. Any necessary preliminary treatments are carried out before the final work.

3. Preparation and impressions

The teeth are prepared according to the plan and an impression or scan is taken. For fixed work, a temporary solution may be fitted.

4. Try-in

Fit, bite, shape and colour are checked. Adjustments may be needed before completion.

5. Fitting and checks

The final work is fitted and the patient receives guidance on hygiene and maintenance. Periodic check-ups help detect problems early.

What does the quote depend on?

The cost should not be communicated as a single price without a diagnosis, because it depends on:
Note: The final quote is given once the doctor has assessed the case. It clearly states what is included and which stages may require separate payment.

Caring for crowns, bridges and dentures

Brush your teeth and clean the areas around the work as your doctor advises
For bridges, use the recommended tools to clean underneath them
Remove and clean removable dentures as instructed; do not adjust them yourself
Do not ignore pain, mobility, bleeding, a bad smell or changes in your bite
Attend periodic check-ups even when the work does not bother you
The lifespan of prosthetic work varies with the material, clinical condition, hygiene, habits and check-ups. No work is presented as permanent or with a guaranteed result.

Frequently asked questions about prosthetic dentistry

A crown covers most of the tooth and is often used when its structure is damaged or weakened. A veneer mainly covers the front surface and is used in selected aesthetic cases. The choice depends on the assessment of the tooth and bite.
There is no single answer for every patient. A bridge uses the neighbouring teeth for support, while an implant requires suitable bone and gum conditions. The doctor compares the benefits, limitations and maintenance of each option.
Not necessarily. The choice depends on clinical condition, number of teeth, suitability for implants, hygiene and budget. The aim is a safe and manageable solution for the patient.
Often yes, but the denture must be checked to understand the cause of the damage or looseness. If it is too worn or no longer fits the mouth, a new denture may be recommended.
The time varies with the type of work, oral condition, previous treatments and number of try-ins. The exact timeline is set in the individual treatment plan.
