Endodontics

What is Endodontics?

Endodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the dental pulp and the tissues surrounding the roots of a tooth. Endodontic treatment, or root canal treatment, addresses the soft pulp tissue inside the tooth.

What do Endodontists do?

Trained endodontists (dental specialists) repair the tissues inside your tooth. They diagnose and treat complex causes of tooth pain, such as dental abscesses (infections). Endodontists perform root canal treatments and other procedures to relieve pain. They work to save your natural tooth.

Endodontists become specialists by completing two or more years of advanced training in endodontics after dental school. They perform routine endodontic procedures, as well as difficult and highly complex ones, including root canal treatment, endodontic surgery, and specialized procedures to save teeth after traumatic dental injuries. By focusing their practice on specific procedures such as root canal treatment, surgery, and trauma, endodontists are experts in the efficient management of a wide range of complex endodontic issues. The advanced technologies and specialized techniques used by endodontists give them a very precise view of the inside of the tooth and allow them to treat the tooth quickly and with ease.

By saving your tooth, an endodontist can help you maintain your natural smile.

Simple composite fillings – White fillings

Bacterial plaque that coats the teeth causes the gradual breakdown of the tooth structure. This damage starts with the destruction of the enamel, the outer layer of every tooth, and if treatment is not performed in time, the damage continues by penetrating into the dentin layer of the tooth, which lies beneath the enamel. Preventing damage to the enamel layer that covers the tooth is very important, which is why consultations and check-ups with the dentist are recommended every 6 months. Enamel is the strongest protective layer of the tooth. After its erosion, microbial agents find it very easy to advance into the tooth’s dentin, which is a less strong structure. Tooth decay varies both in depth and position. Depending on the extent of the damage to the crown of the tooth and the affected area, the treatment may change. If the damage to the tooth’s crown has not progressed enough to reach the dental pulp, or the nerve as it is commonly known, a simple reconstruction of the tooth is performed using white fillings (composite), which in our clinic are of the highest quality.

White Fillings + Root Canal Treatment and Filling

If the carious process progresses and affects the dental pulp, the patient begins to feel pain and seeks the dentist. In these conditions, it becomes necessary to clean the damaged tissues in the tooth crown and remove the infected dental pulp. Then, the root canals, which previously contained healthy pulp, are cleaned and treated, followed by their filling. The care taken during each stage of treatment ensures a highly satisfactory result that lasts over time. This procedure is called endodontic treatment, in which, in addition to removing the pulp and filling the dental canals, the reconstruction of the tooth crown is done with composite.

Tooth Reconstruction with Glass Fiber Posts

Frequently, when the crown is significantly damaged, small special posts are used for the reconstruction of the tooth structure in addition to composite material. These posts increase the stability of the restoration. The posts we use are made of glass, aesthetic, and highly compatible, ensuring they do not cause tooth fractures as can happen with the use of small metal posts, which in many cases cause tooth fractures after some time.

Attention !

In 80% of cases, an endodontic treatment requires the placement of a prosthetic crown / dental cap in order to achieve a stable tooth crown through composite filling, with or without the help of posts.

How long does an endodontic treatment take?
It is completed within a single session. Pain-free.

This answer excludes cases of endodontic treatments where the apex of the tooth and the surrounding area are infected. This treatment requires several sessions to complete the root infection treatment. In cases where endodontic treatment does not yield the desired result, a surgical intervention called apical resection is recommended.
Our mission as a dental team is to work together as a unit to provide the best care available to all ages. We treat our patients with patience and kindness
